Below are the minutes of the Committee meeting held on Tuesday 4th February at St. Aphrem's Church. Members in attendance : 12 1) While we have had many successful social events, including the recent Beach Trip and Movie Night, no Spiritual/Cultural education events have been held yet. Thus it was agreed to establish regular spiritual/cultural education lectures, seminars and English masses. These would initially be held on Sunday evenings once a month (and hopefully increase with demand and popularity) alternating between the two parishes. The youth will also be given a chance to submit any topics of interest to them. 2) An English Mass will be held on Sunday 16th / 23rd February starting 6.30pm at St. Aphrem’s Church. We must encourage all the youth to attend. 3) SOYGOM received a letter from the Chaldean Church requesting our participation in their annual St. Aphrem celebrations. While SOYGOM will not present anything, we will notify the youth of the invitation and will try to attend the celebrations. 4) Upcoming events are to include - Annual Barbeque on Sunday 9th of March at Bundoora Park: To be organised by Christine, Nadia, Ephraim and Saideh; - Skirmish: Ephraim will confirm and book date ASAP so that we can start selling tickets ($40-$50 depending on travel costs); - Sports Event/s : To be organised by George and Isaac; - As well as aforementioned Spiritual / Cultural Education Events 5) Letters need to be written and mailed out to all youth stating who we are, what we have done and inviting them to our upcoming events. Ephraim, Nadia and Saideh will write these letters. They will also write letters to the Priests and Church Councils informing them of SOYGOM’s progress and plans. 6) Ephraim will write an article for the church magazine, Meltho, about our recent events, the new committee and what we have planned for the year. This will hopefully be forwarded through the Syriac Australian E-group (SAE) to further let the Syriac community know about our group and direct them to our website. In addition we will inform all the youth on our e-mail list about the SAE and try and get them involved. 7) All committee members will receive a copy of the draft constitution, which must be read in detail prior to our next meeting on Tuesday 4th March.
